Cripple Creek is located 44 miles (71 km) southwest of Colorado Springs near the base of Pikes Peak. As a former gold mining camp, the Cripple Creek Historic District received National Historic Landmark status in 1961, which includes the city and surrounding areas. History
1900
Teller County Commissioners Lobby for new County Hospital
Newly elected county commissioners convene and submit recommendations for their own hospital to serve the growing population in the Cripple Creek mining district.
1901
County Hospital Plans Approved
The State Board of Charities and Corrections approve plans for the new county-owned hospital. The budget is set at $17,000. Once construction was completed, costs increased to $19,520.22
1902
Teller County Hospital Opens
The Newly completed Teller County Hospital opens to the public in May 1902. Fifteen patients receiving care at the city hospital or in private houses were immediately admitted.
1910
Steady Patient Population
30 patients were registered at the end of January 1910. By the end of the year, the hospital admitted a total of 96 patients.
1930
Hospital Closes
The presence of so many physicians in the area reduced the need for the Teller County Hospital. Staff and residents were relocated to the Cripple Creek Hospital.
1933
Hospital Re-opened as Nursing Home
Miss Minnie Gongway was hired as the superintendent of the recently re-opened hospital. Miss Gongway supervised nursing home care at the hospital until it was closed permanently in 1960.
1963
Mackin's Purchase Former Teller County Hospital
Dorothy and Wayne Mackin purchased the former Teller County Hospital and restored the heavily deteriorated property to a hotel. The Mackins also expanded the property to include an RV park and changed the name of the business to the Cripple Creek Hospitality House & RV Park.
2014
DD&L Family Interests Purchase the Cripple Creek Hospitality House & RV Park
Micheal Duffy, Richard Leonard, Kay Duffy, and Gail Diley, new owners and family members, significantly expand the business model and continue to provide proud, loving care to the Cripple Creek Hospitality House & RV - a historic Cripple Creek hotel and full-service RV park.
